Abstract

This article examines the importance of financial planning for companies in an environment characterized by uncertainty, competition, changing input prices, and evolving financing conditions. Financial planning is defined as a forward-looking process that converts strategic objectives into revenue forecasts, cost budgets, investment programs, financing needs, liquidity requirements, and measurable performance targets. The study uses a conceptual review and a practical planning framework built around integrated financial statements, cash-flow forecasting, scenario analysis, break-even analysis, and rolling forecasts. The results show that financial planning improves liquidity management, investment discipline, financing decisions, cost control, coordination, and risk preparedness. It also provides an early-warning mechanism by identifying future cash deficits before they become operational crises. The article argues that companies should move beyond static annual budgets toward dynamic, scenario-based planning supported by regular forecast updates and clearly defined financial indicators. Recommendations are offered for establishing an effective planning cycle suitable for both large firms and small and medium-sized enterprises.
